Christopher Bealey’s client acquitted of child cruelty and assault.

21 January 2025

Christopher’s client was accused of assaulting her husband and child at a friend’s flat. It was alleged that the Defendant had started a fight with her husband, before slapping her child around the face multiple times. If convicted, the offences could have attracted a custodial sentence.

At trial, Christopher put forward his client’s account that she was acting in self defence to protect herself from her husband. It was denied that his client ever assaulted her child. Through careful cross-examination of the two prosecution witnesses who had attended court to give evidence, Christopher was able to highlight the inconsistencies in their accounts and undermine their overall credibility.

Christopher’s client did not give evidence.

Following a 3-day trial at Harrow Crown Court, the jury acquitted Christopher’s client of all four counts.

Chris was instructed by Mariska van Leeuwen at Tuckers Solicitors.
