Julia Flanagan secures acquittal for businessman accused of multiple rapes.
02 April 2026
Julia Flanagan successfully represented a client who was accused of 3 counts of raping a woman anally, vaginally and orally in the course of participating in group sex with 2 other men. He had met the woman in question earlier the same night.
The complainant was alleged by the prosecution not to have consented and, in addition, to have lost the capacity to consent because of intoxication. The prosecution called a number of witnesses in support of the allegations in a trial lasting a month at Kingston Crown Court.
The careful analysis before the jury of CCTV, telephone data and expert evidence in respect of toxicology, DNA and bruising , allowed the defence to show the jury that the defendant was reasonable in his belief that everything was happening with consent.
The defendant was unanimously acquitted.
Julia was privately instructed by Stefan Sutherland of Carson Kaye Solicitors
