Neil Hawes KC’s client acquitted in political donations case.

Neil Hawes KC of Crucible Law leading Vedrana Pehar of Matrix secured an acquittal for their client, the principal defendant, after a 5 week trial. The case was the first ever prosecution brought under the Political Parties Elections and Referendums Act 2000 and tried before Mrs Justice Eady DBE. It concerned the transparency of donations made to the local MP and Conservative Party and involved complex arguments on statutory interpretation. Neil and Vedrana were instructed by Ben Richardson from Richardson Lissack.
