Camila Ferraro secures Interim Slavery and Trafficking Risk Order.
23 November 2023
Camila Ferraro, instructed by Victoria James of Weightmans, represented the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority in an application for an Interim Slavery Trafficking and Risk Order (“STRO”).
An interim STRO seeks to protect victims of trafficking or modern slavery from any immediate harm pending the full determination of the application.
These orders are civil preventative measures that can be made in respect of individuals who have not been convicted of trafficking or modern slavery offences but are considered to pose a risk of harm.
Prohibitions that may be included in the order are those which the court is satisfied are necessary for the purpose of protecting persons generally, or particular persons, from the physical or psychological harm which would be likely to occur if the individual committed an offence under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
STRO’s can only be applied for by law enforcement, and the CPS will become involved only if they are breached.
