During a trial at Wood Green Crown Court the jury were told by the complainant that her husband of 27 years had been overcome with rage. He kicked her to the floor and beat her before putting his hands around her throat strangling her to the point where she passed out.

The couple’s son also gave evidence that he had heard a noise and gone to his parent’s bedroom where he saw his dad strangling his mum. He pulled his dad off his mum, and his mum called the police immediately. The 999 call was played to the jury.

In cross examination Liam was able to tease out multiple inconsistencies in the accounts given by the complainant and her son. Liam also identified differences in the accounts given to the jury and the statements given to the police immediately after the event.

In closing Liam took the jury through the inconsistencies in the Crown’s case before telling them that the truth is in the detail.

The jury retired for just over an hour before returning unanimous not guilty verdicts on both counts.

Liam was instructed by Andre Crump and Esra Yildirim of Morgan Has.
